Steve

A letter from the Owner

I began my first job as a meat cutter at Patrick Cudahy in 1978. Then in 1981, as a 23 year old kid with lots of ambition, I took a second job selling for Lemke Sporting Goods. As I began to build up clientele, I decided I wanted to establish my own screenprinting company. So, in 1982, I opened Dunn’s Sporting Goods and was operating the company from my own house. Business took off quickly and in 1983 I was able to open my own store front location on 55th & Burnham. Business was slow at that location so in 1984 I moved the company to 76th & Lincoln . Here, the business took off! I was building relationships with bars, schools and businesses. Mostly local, Dunn’s was on the map!

By 1983, I was able to quit my job at Patrick Cudahy and focus solely on the business. Those 16 hour days were now down to 12. Without my wife Sharon’s support this never would have been possible. She ran the store and watched our 3 kids those first 3 years of business. In 1989 I purchased the building we are currently located at 6034 W National Ave. 30 successful years later, the business has expanded to a team of 20 employees. My son Eric is now part owner and does a great job running the production side of the business. Plans are in motion for our 3rd addition to the building in 2020.

God has certainly blessed us. Hard work, a good product, and competitive pricing is Dunn’s Motto. Our customers are #1! Get R Dunn!!!
